Nearly Four Decades In The Making

John and Scott met while working at a manufacturing plant in Indianapolis in 1988. They quickly discovered a common interest in music and Scott invited John to his home studio to work on one of his songs. All the while John was sharing his faith in Christ with Scott and this all led to Scott's accepting Christ and the two recruiting friends Darren and Ed to form a band (Au) and play rock originals about their faith. After a few years Au disbanded. Scott went to another Christian band (Crier) writing and playing originals with Tom Creech, Dave and Tim, and John periodically ran sound. Sadly Crier only lasted about a year after which John and Scott formed another band (Crucible) with Tony and Frank, this time pushing the edge a little into a more prog rock flavor of faith based originals. After several years Crucible also disbanded with the members going their separate ways. In mid 1999 one final band formed (Fairplay) to play a single gig this time with John, Scott, Tom, Tony, and a few other players from other bands in their orbit. After this John and Scott stayed in touch but Scott had moved and changed careers and they didn't see each other very often.

Mid September 2019

John called Scott to ask him to sit in for an October gig with the band he's in. While the gig didn't happen, they talked. Talked more, and talked a lot more. It was agreed they both miss writing and playing together, so why shouldn't they do that again? In early 2020 the Stewart Hampton Project was born.

In May 2022 John and Scott invited Tom Creech to sing on a few songs for what would become the first SHP album, Gratitude. Tom was also inspired to contribute lyrics for a few of the songs. After countless delays Gratitude is finally released.

Through the process of writing and recording Gratitude many other songs have sprung forth. With GOD's blessing and will, there will be more albums coming. Ultimately, GOD's will be done, and may He be praised and given the glory!
